We watched a movie recently about a guy who bought a broken down zoo. It was based on a true story. The man lost his wife and that event thrust him into a new story.
There was a scene where the head zookeeper exploded with emotion at the man. She was trying to figure out why someone who knew nothing about animals or running a business would just decide to buy a zoo. At the end of her loud speech, she posed a simple question: Why?
The man looked at her and then a slight smile lifted one corner of his mouth. He responded, “Why not?”
Heather and the kids and I have recently been thrust into a new story. It involved quitting a job, leaving the state where two of our kids were born and starting a business. And several times I have found myself out in the woods giving a loud emotional speech to the squirrels and birds and to God. Today I ended one of those speeches with a simple question: Why? Why did I do this? Why are we here?
And do you know what God’s response was? He said, “Why not?”
Sometimes we don’t ask the right questions. I challenge you to ask why not. Step to the edge of some cliff and allow the blood to flow into your finger tips. Allow a tingle to rise in your gut. Hold out your hands, palms up, and look to heaven.
Then whisper, “Why not?”
